SIMON, or Smart Integration Manager Ontologically Networked is a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) based software platform facilitating rapid integration of technologies. Conversely to traditional object-oriented software design SOA builds upon autonomous, loosely coupled and coarse-grained resources with well-defined interfaces that are designed to provide flexible and adaptable business functionality. SIMON operates as a dual-bus concept with an enterprise bus, used to handle non-sensor applications, and a real-time bus to handle services relating to sensors. The flexibility of SIMON is further enhanced by the presence of core infrastructure services available on both the enterprise and real-time busses. These core services promote discovery of new services as well as orchestration of the services into applications enhancing the user's workflow.
